SEOpsCentre | Learning By Doing
There are plenty of really good blogs out there about Search Engine Optimization and Marketing (SEO/M) so does the world really need another one? I’ll let you be the judge of that, but first, let me explain a little bit about how this site came into being and what I hope to achieve with it.
- I’ve been working on establishing an online store in a very competitive market, which has meant that I’ve had to learn a lot about SEO in a very short period of time. And I’ve really enjoyed doing it.
- Of all the great resources that I’ve found on the Internet so far, the majority are written from the perspective of very experienced and advanced practitioners of Search Engine Optimization, who sometimes appear to take it for granted that their readers have a much greater understanding of the technical aspects of creating a web presence than I did when I first began this journey (to be honest, when I started, the only thing I knew about html was that there’s an awful lot of angle brackets involved - all that talk about h1 tags and anchor text was way over my head).
- Even those sites I found with beginners’ guides to learning SEO seemed to assume that I already knew how to set up a site with a WordPress blog. Now that I’ve found out how and done it (with only a couple of minor hiccups along the way) I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know before. It really is very easy once you know how.
- What I needed was an easy to follow, step-by-step guide, not just to SEO, but also to setting up a website from scratch. Kind of a Fisher-Price “My First SEO Blog” if you like.
- I also wanted somewhere to try out the things I was learning and test various plugins and analytics packages without conducting those experiments on my employer’s sites.
So off I went and got myself a hosting package and a domain name, downloaded WordPress and got stuck in. I’ve been keeping careful notes about the steps I’ve taken so far to set this site up and will be posting these as a series of step-by-step guides that beginners can follow along with. As I continue to develop the site and try out new things, I’ll keep updating on my progress and about what works and what doesn’t. Over time this will build into the kind of beginners’ guide to websites and SEO that I was looking for when I first started learning about SEO.
So, what are you waiting for? Go and check out My First SEO Blog.
